Table Form Shuttering- Types, Components, and Advantages

Table Form Shuttering

Reading time: 1 minute

Table Form shuttering is a kind of shuttering specializing in floor concreting and it is widely used in high building and skyscraper, multilayer industrial factory building, substructure, etc. Table shuttering has a simple structure, it is easy to assemble and disassemble and can be reusable.

Materials used for the construction of concrete formwork range from traditional materials such as timber, steel, aluminum, and plywood to non-traditional materials such as fiberglass. The systems used can be a combination of two materials. Wood products are the most widely used material for formwork.

Types of Table Form Shuttering

1. Climbing Formwork System

This climbing system is crane handled and is easily plumbed and aligned. A minimum amount of crane time is required to simply lift the shutter and hook it onto the climbing cone which was cast into the concrete on the previous pour.

The scissor action allows the formwork to be rolled back to enable the panels to be cleaned and oiled in position without having to lower the shutter to the ground or the floor below.

2. Table Shifting Trolley

Shifting trolley is special shifting equipment for table formwork, as we know, in slab construction, we usually divide several construction sections to save money that makes a turnover of slab formwork be very necessary. The speed of moving of table formwork is accelerated by means of shifting trolley that is why this smart tool is designed.

Fig 3: Table Shifting Trolley

The table formwork will be carried by trolley safely, quickly and easily. Usually, the shifting of each block of table form will be finished only by one labor and one trolley. The speed of construction is accelerated and the trolley will go up and down by its own device.

3. Crane Guided Climbing Formwork

This climbing system is crane handled and is easily plumbed and aligned. A minimum amount of crane time is required to simply lift the shutter and hook it onto the climbing cone which was cast into the concrete on the previous pour.

Components of Table Form Shuttering

The components of Table Form Shuttering consists of 4 different members-

  1. Aluminum/timber scaffolding system which consists of frame, Jake and cross braces.
  2. Channel beams in longitudinal direction usually made of steel or timber. The lifting brackets are fitted into these for the lifting of the shuttering by crane. Channel beams in smaller lengths are also of the same material.
  3. The top surface upon which the concrete is placed is made out of plywood.

Advantages of Table Form Shuttering

  1. The table system is a Simple and Safe tool for Slab Construction that increases speed, time efficiency and cost economics on site.
  2. Minimal System components in the table system make it a quick and easy to assemble system even by relatively unskilled labor.
  3. Since no leg ties are required in the table system, areas below the soffit are kept clear ensuring easy movement of site operatives and machinery within the structure, which maximizes safety.
  4. With a leg capacity of 35kN, larger tables can be constructed with various decking and propping options that enable the contractor to pour larger areas resulting in minimizing construction cycle time and cost.
  5. The table formwork system offers good sustainability through reusability over many construction cycles with little waste.
  6. The simplicity of assembly and disassembly results in large savings in time, effort, manpower and labor costs.
  7. With the basic assembly of the table system being possible to be handled manually, savings are achieved by minimizing the use of crane time.
  8. Table System can be transported and stored quickly and easily with a combination of crane lifting and hydraulic double-action jack trolley movement.
  9. High Practicality Onsite with a simple design makes the table system a preferred system of Contractors for use in large scale developments.

Safety

  1. Interconnected truss members provide a stable working platform.
  2. The repetitive nature of work ensures quick familiarity with safety procedures.
  3. Falsework units can be assembled at ground level minimizing work at height.
  4. Decking with non-slip surfaces can be used to enhance safety.
  5. Table formwork systems can include standard health and safety features such as guard rails.
