In the following discussion some of the most simple and general safety issues which must be followed in the site are shown:
Core areas covered for safety considerations:
- House Keeping
- Working at heights
Safety problems in core areas:
Excavation was carried out for the depth of more than 3 m without any slope for a running length of more than 50m
Slope should be provided at regular intervals to avoid collapse and injuries
No proper approach path to the excavated area
Approach path is a must for excavated area to avoid laborers from falling into excavated area
No precautionary measures were taken to prevent the tree from falling into the excavated area.
Either the tree should have been cut or it should have been strengthened
TMT rods were not stacked and were found lying on main approach road to the site
TMT rods should been stacked properly and approach should be devoid of any
Debris were dumped within the construction site
Debris should be dumped in proper landfills to avoid breeding of mosquitoes
Foot bearing plate was found missing in scaffolding base
Foot bearing plates should be provided to prevent the scaffolding collapse.
4.WORKING AT HEIGHTS:
Laborers were found working without helmets and safety belts at heights more than 12m
Helmets and safety belts are a must while working at a height of above 4m to avoid any fatalities.
No walking platform was used for working at heights
A firm, well supported walking platform should be used while working at heights to ensure safety
Worker was found without hand gloves, safety helmets, safety shoes
Hand gloves, safety helmets and safety shoes are must to minimize the fatalities during accidents.
SOME MOST ESSENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES:
- The construction site should be barricaded
- Caution boards should be provided
- Fire extinguishers should be provided on site
- Hygienic conditions should be maintained in labour colony
