Applications and Importance of Non-destructive Tests on Concrete

Non-destructive tests (NDT) are widely used and play an important role in engineering projects including newly constructed and existing structures. For new structures, applications are mainly quality control or the resolution of doubts about the quality of materials or construction. Testing of existing structures is related to the assessment of structural integrity or adequacy.

Commonly, these tests are done without damaging concrete. These tests can be used to determine a broad range of concrete properties such as density, elastic modulus, strength, surface hardness and absorption, reinforcement location, size and distance from the surface.
