The clearstory window should be larger as possible.

    Advantages

    • Better air circulation and natural light emitting
    • Good aesthetic view
    • Due to higher sill level better privacy
    • Save electricity due to natural light
    • Better environment formation.

    Disadvantages

    • Wall slab junction become critical at opening of clearstory
    • Costly design
    • Due to hight sunlight, there is may be heat problem.

Float is a spare of time for a particular activity

Some activities have some time to lag it without affecting whole project duration time that’s call float of that activities

See the figure to better understand

Activity A to F have zero float that means if activities between A to F lag then whole project duration maybe change

Activity G and H have some float which means we can lag G & H activities up to its float without affecting whole project duration.

Floor area is a ratio of two area

Floor area = total floor area of all floor of building/total building plot area (land area)

FAR is restricted by local jurisdiction authority

If FAR is more that mean we can build more floor area or more story for perticular land.

    Lets see one example

Land plot area is 1600 sq ft

We have 5 story building & each story have 1000 sq ft floor area

    FAR = 1000X5 / 1600 = 3.125

Our FAR for this building is 3.125

Plasticizer is used to increase workability in concrete. Due to plasticizer, we can reduce the water-cement ratio up to a certain limit.

Basically, water-cement ratio is used for workability and hydration of cement.

If the water-cement ratio is higher, the chances of shrinkage crack increases and also the chance of porous concrete formation due to free water in concrete.

If the water-cement ratio is less than 0.4, then water is insufficient to complete the hydration process of cement, so we required a minimum water-cement ratio is 0.4

The third point is workability; if the water-cement ratio is minimum or Less, then we get less workability, and if we have a higher water-cement ratio, then we get good workability.

The best water-cement ratio is 0.4, but for workability, we add some plasticizer to the concrete. due to plasticizer, we get higher workability

    Usage of plasticizer is

    • We can reduce water cement ratio
    • We can get higher workability
    • We can get higher strength because of of lesser water cement ratio and higher workability
    • Reduction in cement content
    • Due to plasticizer we can make pumpable concrete
    • Plasticizer is mostly used in underwater construction and pile foundation

Soundness refers to the ability of hardening cement to retain its volume after setting with any destructive expansion.

Unwanted destructive volume expansion occurs due to free lime and magnesia.

    Effect of unsound concrete

    • Falling of concrete cover
    • Rusting of reinforcement bar
    • Crack formation
    • Less durability and lifeline

The soundness test is performed to identify the soundness property of cement.
