Quantity of materials such as cement, sand, coarse aggregates and water required per cubic meter of concrete and mortar for different mix proportions varies with the mix design of the concrete and mortar respectively.

Following table gives the estimated quantity of materials required per cubic meter of mortar and concrete for various nominal mixes.

1. F.A.= Fine Aggregates, C.A.= Coarse Aggregates

2. The table is based on assumption that the voids in sand and crushed stone are 40 and 45 percent respectively.

3. Air content of 1 percent has been assumed.

4. For gravel aggregates decrease cement by 5 percent, increase sand by 2 percent and coarse aggregate in proportion to fine aggregate in mix.

4. No allowance has been made in the table for bulking of sand and wastage.

there is no exact quantity on how much water u should sprinkle on the structure once u start curing the concrete… The sample once it settled at 24 hrs after casting, is immersed to the curing tank until the time of testing (28 days). From there u can deride that the structure should be all throughout wet to attain the needed strength at 28 days.

This is nice. piece of information to daily routine jobs. Very useful info.

Any one tells me How we can calculate the Quantity of Water required for concrete curing Per Sft/Sq.m OR Per Cu.m/Cu.ft Per day(7 days,14 days OR 28 days etc).

the cost per cubic meter vary from country prices. E.g, the cost of cement in your country is different from my country. All you need to do is to get a Q.S that has built the rates per cubic meter in your country to tell you. I in Ghana has my rate per cubic meter. Cheers!

This is nice if you also, post a table of Water/Cement ratio in function of concrete resistance at 28 days. With this data, you cant calculate accurately a concrete with the resistance as an unknown.

How to calculate the quantity of cement used in cured concrete block of 1:2:4 ratio. My aim is to understand the volume reduction if any after the concrete is set.

What is the F- factor in batching concrete ?

I always was told the F-factor basic was F 16

Being a rule of the thumb calculating the amount of cement per cub/meter

With a starting point of 20 mpa – being F16

Calculated as follows:

16 x 20 = 320 kg cement for 1 cub meter of concrete by 640 kg of sand, and 1200 kg aggregate

Now for every 5 mpa increase in strength we drop the F factor by one

So for 25 mpa the formula becomes:

F-15: so 15 x 25 = 375 kg cement/ cub.meter

For 30 mpa we use F-14. 14 x 30 = 420 kg cement/cub.meter

Etc. All by WC ratio of 0.5-0.6

Is this formula wrong or what.

I am confused now.

I know the thumb rule to calculate the cement content of concrete mix per cubic meter. i.e. for ratio of mix 1:x:y, divide 44 by (1+x+y)

i.e. cement content required in bags = 44/(1+x+y)

for 1:2:4 (M15), cement content = 44/(1+2+4) = 6.2 bags = 310kg of cement

for 1:1.5:3 (M20) cement content = 44/(1+1.5+3) = 8 bags = 400 kg.

in your example, you are getting only 320 kg for M20, which i think is the old formula. After IS 456:2000, old M20 is now equivalent to current M15. i.e. ratio 1:2:4 is now M15.

for 15MPa, as per Indian code, its mix ratio is 1:2:4, and for this mix, it is shown in the above table that, cement required is 310kg of cement or 6.2 number of bags of cement, 0.434 cubic meter of sand (FA) and 0.868 cubic meter of coarse aggregate or stone.

similarly, for M20 or 20MPa concrete, refer above table with mix ratio of 1:1.5:3, you will find, 395 kg of cement or 7.9 bags of cement, 0.414 cubic meter of sand (FA) and 0.828 cubic meter of stone (CA).

I hope this clears the doubt.
