What is the difference between Nappe and Jet?
Himanshu joshi
The sheet of water flow that flows over weir or dam is known as nappe. The sheet of water that flows from the orifice is known as jet.

What is Vena Contract in Orifice?
Himanshu joshi
Vena-contract is a section in orifice which has a minimum cross-section area and has maximum velocity. At this, all streamlines are parallel, straight, and uniform, so have laminar flow. It is calculated by the area of the orifice (Ao) and the coefficient of contraction (Cc). Area of vena contractaRead more

Membrane curing is one of the methods of curing that is adopted when there is a scarcity of water. The method generally adopted on the pavement.
See lessIn this method, membrane compounds such as bituminous emulsion, wax compound, waterproof paper, etc. are used.
The basic principle:
– the water used in the hydration process can be evaporated under atmospheric conditions.
Thus, to reduce this effect, the curing compound is sprayed to surface as a coating, which will help to keep moisture sufficient for hydration.
Which method gives accurate desired strength in RCC?
Himanshu joshi
Generally, the type of work adopted will decide the method of batching. If we have small work of construction, then in that case volume batching adopted, otherwise weight batching adopted for large work. 1- volume batching- it should not be adopted for large work because it involves bulking of sandRead more
Generally, the type of work adopted will decide the method of batching.
See lessIf we have small work of construction, then in that case volume batching adopted, otherwise weight batching adopted for large work.
1- volume batching- it should not be adopted for large work because it involves bulking of sand (or fine aggregate). And thumb rule says that the weight of sand having bulking is much less than that of no bulking having the same volume. So, in this case, there are more chances of theft. So it should not be generally preferred.
2- weight batching: it must be adopted for large work because of accurate batching quantity. Further, it doesn’t show the bulking problem.
The cement should be batched by weight only irrespective of the batching method.
**Conclusion: weight batching is more accurate and gives desired strength.
What should one do if the slump test fails for a given concrete?
Himanshu joshi
If slump results from test show shear or collapsible slump, then it should be rejected, and the test should be repeated. Now, if at site RMC is used and slump results are not satisfactory, then we can manage the water-cement ratio by adding more cement content, which will increase strength. Also, weRead more

Also, we can use admixtures such as plasticizers or superplasticizer to maintain workability of concrete.
What is the benefit of smaller dia steel instead of larger dia steel in slab and beam?

For this reason, easy transfer of load from concrete to steel is a crucial criterion, and it can be achieved if steel and concrete have proper bonding with each other.
See lessSo making RCC stronger and stable and also making concrete more Reinforced, we should provide more number of the smaller diameter of the bar than the larger one, then it will help in good bonding between steel and concrete.
So that’s the main reason.
What is Soundness Property of Cement?

The soundness property of cement is mainly affected by the type of oxide present in the mass. Particularly magnesium and calcium oxide, if present in mass, then expansion of cement mass takes place after setting and hardening, which will ultimately cause disruption and crack in the concrete. This affects the durability of concrete structures due to expansion or due to volume change. It is soundness.
See lessSo for cement, if volume change will occur, cement can be called as unsound cement.
For finding this property, two methods are adopted:
1- Le- Chatelier apparatus: when only lime is only present.
expansion/distance between two indicator points should not be greater than 10mm
2- autoclave expansion test: for lime and magnesia both
The expansion should not be higher than 0.8%.
Which one should be stronger brick or brick bond?
