Bacterial concrete is a material that has enough potential to remediate cracks in concrete. It is also known as self-healing concrete. This technique is highly desirable because the mineral precipitation induced as a result of microbial activities is pollution-free and natural. Bacterial concrete is a product that will biologically produce limestone to heal the crack that appears on the surface of concrete structures. Thus we can say, bacterial concrete is a result of the biological reaction of non-reacted limestone and calcium-based nutrients with the help of bacteria to heal the cracks.
Area of application;
Bacterial concrete is used for the refilling of cracks in the building. It also enhances the life span of the building and gives good strength.

CORROSION refers to an electrochemical reaction between a metal and its environment. Steel will readily rust unless it is coated. Corrosion occurs when steel reacts with chloride ions (Cl-), CO2 in the presence of a toxic environment. Thus, corrosion is uneven erosion/pitting of metal surface due to intense rusting and is also harmful to the service performance of rebar.
There are many ways of reducing the risk of corrosion-related distress in concrete. The first defencing layer is concrete, which should be thick and dense. Also, the cracks should be minimized. The concrete cover should be used appropriately.
An additional measure for corrosion-resistant is that corrosion inhibiting admixtures should be used. Epoxy coatings should be done on rebar, which acts as a physical barrier and also isolates the steel from oxygen, moisture, and chloride ions (which are the three primary elements needed for corrosion to occur).

Triaxial test ;
The triaxial test is one of the most versatile and widely performed tests in the geotechnical laboratory. It allows shear strength and stiffness of soil and rock to be determined for use in geotechnical design.
– Procedure of triaxial test :-
The triaxial test typically involves subjecting a cylindrical specimen of soil, whose diameter ranges from 38mm to 100mm, into a cell that can be pressurized. Most of the specimens have an approximate 2:1 height to dia ratio and are sealed with a rubber membrane. The specimen preparation generally depends upon the type of soil. Cohesive soil samples are prepared directly from saturated compacted samples, either undisturbed or remolded. The specimen for cohesion-less soil is prepared with the help of the mold that maintains the required shape of the specimen.
And then the specimen is vertically covered with a thin rubber membrane and placed between two rigid ends inside a pressure chamber. The upper plate can move vertically and apply vertical stresses to the specimen. The axial stress/strain of the sample is controlled by the movement of this vertical axis. The water pressure surrounding the sample in the pressure chamber controls the confining pressure. Also, the volume change of the sample is controlled by measuring the exact volume of moving water.
There are three primary triaxial test carried out in a laboratory, depending upon the combination of loading and drainage condition ;
Triaxial test is significant to know soil property because it determines the ability of soil to resist shear stress and strain. Different combination of confining and axial stresses can be applied. Drained and undrained test can be carried out. The types of properties of soil which can be known by triaxial test are followed ;

It is the method which deals with the obtaining of RL of the line of collimation by adding BS reading of a known RL point. Thus, RL of the line of collimation is called the Height of Instrument. It is always measured from the benchmark. Hence the benchmark is the point on the sea derived from mean sea level.
– method to calculate RL;
height of collimation (H of C) = reduced level(R.L.) + backsight (B.S.)
reduced level (R.L.) = height of collimation (H of C) – foresight (F.S.)
reduced level (R.L.) = height of collimation (H of C) – intermediate sight (I.S.)
It is the method which gives the difference of elevation between consecutive points by comparing each point after the first that immediately preceding it. Rise and fall are indicated by the difference in staff reading. After that RL is found by adding the rise to or subtracting the fall from the reduced level of the preceding point.
– method to calculate RL;
fall (F) = foresight (F.S.) – backsight (B.S.)
fall (F) = intermediate sight (I.S.) – backsight (B.S.)
rise (R) = backsight (B.S.) – foresight (F.S.)
reduced level (R.L.) = precede reduced level + rise (R)
reduced level (R.L.) = precede reduce level – fall (F)

Generally, the pressure which is exerted by the fluid in a porous medium and composed of a solid framework, pores filled completely or partially with water or other fluid is called Pore Water Pressure.
Negative pore water pressure is obtained when the voids are partially filled with water. In this case, surface tension forces operate to gain suction effect and the shear strength of the soil is increased.
