    Translucent concrete
    It is also called as Transparent concrete or Light transmitting concrete. Translucent concrete is achieved by replacing aggregates with transparent alternative materials. This transparent appearance is mainly due to the uniform distribution of high numerical aperture plastic optical fibers (POF) throughout its body.
    The concrete is formed by mixing of fine concrete, i.e., cement & fine aggregate with optical fibers. These fibers blend into the concrete like any other aggregates. These optical fibers have the capacity to transmit the light from the source into the space enclosed by panels.
    The thickness of the optical fibers can be in 2μ – 2mm. The main reason to use optical fiber is that it can emit light even at incident ∠ >60°. Using these does not have any impact on the properties of concrete compared to normal ones. It is commonly used in the construction of green buildings.
    Since it can emit light, this type of concrete is considered an energy-saving method of construction. It provides a good aesthetical appearance to the building. But casting of this type of concrete needs skilled labor, and cost is somewhat high.

    A concrete with pore solution with a pH less than 6 can quickly corrode down steel reinforcement and also corrode the concrete mix. It makes the concrete excessively porous with the passage of time and the increase in porosity speeds up the corrosion process.

    An alkaline mixing water facilitates the alkali-aggregate reaction (concrete cancer) which is the biggest enemy of concrete. Also, pH higher than 10 significantly corroded the steel reinforcement too.

    Hi, Using a plastic optical fibre in concrete mix makes it translucent.i.e the concrete are able to pass light through it , but does not allow air and water.

    • It makes concrete with high porosity and more durable
    • Reduces the deflection of the beam with 25%.
    • Presence of fibre in inter transitional zones makes the bond between the reinforcement and concrete strong and durable.
    • Due to the presence of optical fibre due to the shorter band radius a more resilient to damage is found.
    • It is easier to connect and polish which also reduces the cost of installation and maintenance.
    • It makes concrete economical and strong.

    I think you have not done curing of concrete continually for 28days!

    Have you stopped curing after 7days due casting?

    If so then the concrete will not gain its strength, as we know that the cement is very greedy for water to hydrate, but because you stopped curing after 7days then it was not able to get the moisture and the concrete got shrinkage cracks and also due to creep the strength has been reduced!

    So its very important to cure the concrete for 28days to gain the strength!

    Concrete will be subjected to following test a at site: Slump test Temperature test Cube casting and strength checking at 7 and 28 days test Durability tests ..namely..absorption test, chloride and sulphate contents tests, water permeability test.

    Recently I go through the image you attached, yes it possible to repair the leakages and seal with concrete with some admixtures. I suggest you contact with the locally available contractor for repairs. But if you are a civil engineer, the following are some suggestions.

    Following are some repairing methods for leakages

    1. Resin injection: used for repairing the concrete saw delaminated and also used for joints that experience water leakage. Metals are used for rebound cracks, whereas polyurethanes and acrylic acrylates are used to seal the cracks and joints that leak water.
    2. Stitching cracks: it is a long-lasting and easiest method where the holes are drilled, and the surface is stitched with the help of a metallic wire. Is metallic wires are passed through the holes and anchored strongly, and the vacant spaces are grouted.
    3. Gravity field method: in this method instrument with waterproofing admixture used to fill the cracks with the help of the gravity where it is allowed to move inside the cracks by gravity forces and sealed it. It is used for the cracks with width 0.03mm to 20mm cracks
    4. Micro toppings: Polymer with 1/8 inches, which contained a modified concrete and sand, are applied with the help of trowels. This treated surfaces can be allowed for public use within 36 to 42 hours of usages.

    I find it difficult to agree with you. The fly ash is collected from thermal powerhouses. The coal used in these thermal plants may be from India or other countries. As far as deposits of radioactive materials in India is concerned, such material is found from coal in Jharkhand. But till now there are no reports about fly ash being contaminated with radioactive elements. The radioactive material is found in some composite form and not in pure element form. The sand in Kerala has some radioactive material. But there is no coal mine in Kerala.

    To say that Indian fly ash contains radioactive elements does not appear to be scientifically correct.
