Working on a building project in the Philippines, my contractor has just bent the longitudinal bars in the column because the columns were not in alignment at the base. The building is a two storey building with 25cm rebar frame. Double 12mm schedule 40 longitudinal main bars in the corners of the column. The building is currently at ground floor raised slab level. The position of the bent longitudinal bars is immediately above the floor slab level. Which has just been laid. I am an aerospace engineer but I understand maximum shear force will be at the base of this column. Can anyone comment on this from a civil/structural engineering perspective?
