E value (elastic modulus) of concrete is given by :
E = 5000√f’
Where f’: compressive strength (28 days)
As per Indian code. Different approximations are done in different codes (British, American, European, Japanese, etc.)
It can be properly estimated by experiment: A concrete core of specific size and shape of a specific age is held under compression with the strain measured. From the plot, the slope up to 0.45f’ is calculated and designated as the E value.
