Do we calculate wastage for Cement, 20mm and coarse aggregate in rate analysis for concrete?

    Hi,

    Please specify the type of wastage you would like to reduce. Because cement sand and aggregate are measured at the initial stage and then for the mix for making a concrete paste. So if mix ratio is correct then there is no probability of wastage of these materials. In some cases, if the mix ratio is not proper then more amount of concrete test it is made by the labour which is considered as the waste. But it depends upon is site engineer and mix ratio. Steel reinforcement is also used in construction, which manufactured in proper length. Thus, some small parts remain in used and considered as waste.

    Rate analysis:

    Basically rate analysis is simply a summary of all the cost which is at fault in doing a particular work. For the great analysis, we should be aware of the details about the operation involved in carrying out the work. We should consider the following parameter in mind while doing rate analysis:

    1. Material quantity and cost of it
    2. Cost of labor
    3. Equipment cost (usually it is considered 1.5%)
    4. Water charges (Again will consider it as 1.5 %)
    5. Overhead expenses (it range from 2 to 5%)
    6. Profit of contractor (it is taken as 10%)

    Total material cost:

    Here I am doing the total material cost calculation for the 1-meter cube of concrete of ratio 1:2:4

    Cement = 1.57/(1+2+4) = 1.57/7 =0.22cum x 28.8 = 6.336 bags.

    Sand = 0.22 x 2 = 0.44 cum

    Aggregate = 0.22 x 4 = 0.88 cum

    Cement = 6.336 bags @300Ru.= 1900.8

    Aggregate = 0.88 cum @800 per cum

    Total Material Cost = 1900.8 + 440 + 704 = 3044.8

    Material and cost needed for 10 Cu.m of concrete are mentioned below:

    Cement Sand Aggregate 20mm
    1 2 4 Ratio of cement
    Total 7 =1+2+4
    For 10 cu.m
    Considering wastage in concrete(7%) 10.7
    Shrinkage factor 1.52
    Dry concrete 16.264 =10.7*1.52
    Description Cement Sand Aggregate
    Calculation =(1/7)*10.7 =(2/7)*10.7 =(4/7)*10.7
    Cu.m quantity needed 1.53 3.06 6.11
    Wastage 2% considered 10% considered 5% considered
    Total Cu.m Needed 1.56 3.37 6.42
    Bags = 1.56/0.0345
    Total Quantity 45.21 Bags 3.37 cu.m sand 6.42 cu.m aggregate

     

    • Now multiply with the rates of the material
    • Add the rate of a skilled and unskilled worker
    • Water and electricity may be considered:: 2% x (Total cost of the worker + Total cost of material)
    • TEP cost may be considered 1% x (Total cost of the worker + Total cost of materials) and also add the owning and operating cost of required machinery
    • Profit and overhead cost will be as per decided

    The total cost will be addition of above all for 10 Cu.m

    Wastage occurs in case of steel reinforcement in concrete construction. Since cement, sand and coarse aggregates are measured and then used as per required quantity based on mix ratio, their wastage does not occur. Steel reinforcement are of specific length and they need to be cut as per drawing. So, some small pieces may remain unused, which is considered as wastage.
