    Translucent concrete
    It is also called as Transparent concrete or Light transmitting concrete. Translucent concrete is achieved by replacing aggregates with transparent alternative materials. This transparent appearance is mainly due to the uniform distribution of high numerical aperture plastic optical fibers (POF) throughout its body.
    The concrete is formed by mixing of fine concrete, i.e., cement & fine aggregate with optical fibers. These fibers blend into the concrete like any other aggregates. These optical fibers have the capacity to transmit the light from the source into the space enclosed by panels.
    The thickness of the optical fibers can be in 2μ – 2mm. The main reason to use optical fiber is that it can emit light even at incident ∠ >60°. Using these does not have any impact on the properties of concrete compared to normal ones. It is commonly used in the construction of green buildings.
    Since it can emit light, this type of concrete is considered an energy-saving method of construction. It provides a good aesthetical appearance to the building. But casting of this type of concrete needs skilled labor, and cost is somewhat high.

    Approximately 15 to 30% of ordinary Portland cement is replaced with fly ash in Portland pozzolana cement.

    The compressive strength of Portland pozzolana cement is more for long term use compared to ordinary Portland cement.

    Ordinary Portland cement is one of the widely used cement.

    For residential construction, we prefer Portland pozzolana cement as compared to ordinary Portland cement. We use ordinary Portland cement only for commercial purposes.

    Three grades of cement are available 33, 43, and 53.

    33 grade of cement means the compressive strength of cement after 28 days of curing should be at least 33 mega Pascal not more than that value.

    43 grade of cement was the compressive strength of cement after 28 days of curing should be at least 43 Newton per mm square or more than that.

    Similarly, 53 Grade of cement means compressive strength of cement after 28 days of curing should be at least 53 Newton per mm square or more than that value.

    There are certain methods to remove the delaminated concrete, and then formwork is to be fixe. After that, the application of repair material like a dry pack, and wet pack, shotcrete, is carried out if reinforcement is not removed while fixing the pipe.

    You can try one other method also, by fixing plate bonding in the beam on the bottom to enhance the flexural strength, you will have to rest the plate on the bricks, and for that, you will have to remove the top layer of the brick. You also may need to provide scaffolding if you are altering the load-bearing wall. As it is a load-bearing structure, if any alteration is done in the load-bearing wall, it should be done with the consultation of a structural engineer.

    Please specify the type of wastage you would like to reduce. Because cement sand and aggregate are measured at the initial stage and then for the mix for making a concrete paste. So if mix ratio is correct then there is no probability of wastage of these materials. In some cases, if the mix ratio is not proper then more amount of concrete test it is made by the labour which is considered as the waste. But it depends upon is site engineer and mix ratio. Steel reinforcement is also used in construction, which manufactured in proper length. Thus, some small parts remain in used and considered as waste.

    So, Volume of dry concrete = 1.54 to 1.57 times volume of wet concrete

    Assume, 1cum of concrete work ratio sum = 1+1.5+3 = 5.5

    shrinkage or safety factor = 1.57

    Total volume of wet concrete required is = 1.57cum

    Volume of broken stone require = (3/5.5) * 1.57 = 0.856 m3

    Volume of sand require = (1.5/5.5) * 1.57 = 0.471 m3

    Volume of cement = (1/5.5) * 1.57 = 0.285 m3
    =0.285*1440 =411 kg

    For 1 m3 of M20 (1:1.5:3)

    Broken stone = 0.856 m3

    Sand = 0.472 m3

    Cement = 8.22 bag

    Therefore,
    8 bag of cement is required for 1cum of concrete work in M20

    Volume of fully compacted concrete is given by following formula: where Vc is the volume of concrete. W, C, Fa and Ca are the masses of water, cement, fine aggregates and coarse aggregates respectively. Density of cement = 1500 kg/m3, fine aggregates = 1700 kg/m3 and coarse aggregates = 1650 kg/m3.Read more

    Volume of fully compacted concrete is given by following formula:

    where Vc is the volume of concrete. W, C, Fa and Ca are the masses of water, cement, fine aggregates and coarse aggregates respectively.

    Density of cement = 1500 kg/m3, fine aggregates = 1700 kg/m3 and coarse aggregates = 1650 kg/m3. 

    So, Weight of cement C = 0.25 x 1500 = 375kg

    Weight of Fine aggregates Fa = 0.25 x 1700 = 425 kg

    Weight of Coarse aggregates Ca = 0.5 x 1650 = 825 kg

    Consider w/c ratio as 0.45, so weight of water = 0.45×0.25×1000 = 112.5 L or kg

    Sc, Sfa and Sca are the specific weight of cement, fine aggregates and coarse aggregates which are 3.15 for cement and 2.6 for fine and coarse aggregates.

    Therefore, putting these values in the formula above, we get

    Vc = (112.5/1000)+(375/(1000×3.15))+(425/(1000×2.6))+(825/(1000×2.6)) = 0.712m3

    So, Volume of concrete = 0.712m3
