Assuming, however that the soil beneath a structure is firm and solid, engineers can greatly improve how the building foundation system will respond to seismic waves.

    Another solution refers to base isolation which involves floating a building above its foundation on a system of bearings, springs or padded cylinders.

    Vena contracta is the point in a fluid stream where the diameter of the stream is the least and fluid velocity is at its maximum, such as in the case of the stream issuing out of a nozzle. It is a place where cross section area is minimum.

    Flexural strength is the maximum strength (stress) either yield or up to fracture that a structure or element or a member could bear. It could be measures in terms of modulus of rupture at yield also.

    Where in modulus of rupture is just showing the present stress condition within the member or element itself. If the member is on the verge of failure i.e on the verge of fracture than the modulus of rupture will give Flexural strength.
